Quality Assurance

For tests with high density or 100% quality, a test method must be found that allows determination of internal gas pressure and gas composition without destroying the vessel.

It should be taken into account that the vessel size, the quality of the vacuum and the selection of the gas used are specified by the range of application and intended use. The same applies to the requirements for the evaluation, the throughput and the possible applications (integrated, stationary, portable). GNT provides solutions for all of these tasks.

Via high voltage modulation GNT solutions generate plasma in a defined vacuum area of a glass vessel. The characteristic colour of the plasma is recognized and analyzed by optical systems. Plasma is described as the fourth state of matter. Plasma illuminates in a visible range (and in the NIR or near-UV range) when sufficient external energy is applied.

By evaluating the minimum amount of energy required to operate a plasma inside the vessel, quantitative values for a partial vacuum can be determined. Besides the size of the sample, the nature of the gas and the prevailing pressure (partial vacuum) within the test vessel have an influence on the energy required for plasma generation. The same also applies to the generated color spectrum. The composition or the presence of a particular gas can be determined by visual inspection or spectrography. The degree of activation energy and the spectrum of the colors emitted represent the gas pressure level and the composition.

GNT testing systems, based on plasma technology, are successfully used in industries that allow a non-destructive inspection of gas type or pressure in sealed containers. GNT GmbH has developed innovative technologies that meet these requirements and offer efficient and economic solutions to these industries.
